Resurrection Facts
"But now is Christ risen from the dead, and become the firstfruits of them that slept."1 Corinthians 15:20
What if the tomb was not empty? People have said that Jesus only fainted on the cross, that His disciples stole His body in the night, or that He rose only in spirit. If any of that were true, the Christian faith would be hollow, and every graveside would be a place without hope.
On Easter Sunday morning, Dr. Herb Adams begins with the Battle of Waterloo. A fog cut short the signal from the coast, and all of London mourned at the words "Wellington defeated" until the fog lifted and the rest of the message came through: "Wellington defeated Napoleon." That is how things looked on the day Jesus died, until the third day. From 1 Corinthians 15, Dr. Adams shows that Christ had a literal, bodily resurrection, and he walks through Paul's argument. If Christ be not risen, our preaching is vain, our faith is vain, the apostles were false witnesses, death has the last word, and we are of all men most miserable. Along the way he remembers the apostles who gave their lives for that testimony, his own daddy walking down the church aisle on legs that hurt, and the Bible his mother left behind with the salvation verses marked. Then he reads verse 20 aloud with the whole church: "But now is Christ risen from the dead."
He's alive. Because He lives, our preaching and our faith are not in vain, and all who die in Christ will rise again. Is He alive in your heart today?
