Altogether LovelyA Valentine for Jesus
"His mouth is most sweet: yea, he is altogether lovely. This is my beloved, and this is my friend, O daughters of Jerusalem."Song of Solomon 5:16
Every February the stores fill up with heart-shaped boxes of candy and red roses, and we go out of our way to tell the people we love how much they mean to us. But when was the last time you told the Lord Jesus how much you love Him? It is easy to let our hearts grow cold toward the One who loved us first.
In this Sunday evening message, preached the week of Valentine's Day, Dr. Herb Adams opens the Song of Solomon. The daughters of Jerusalem ask the bride, "What is thy beloved more than another beloved?" She is lovesick, and she answers by describing him. Dr. Adams shows how every part of her answer points to Christ. He is white, pure and without sin. He is ruddy, because He shed His precious blood at Calvary. His head is as the most fine gold, for He is the all-wise God. His legs are as pillars of marble set upon sockets of fine gold, strong enough to bear every one of our sins. His lips drop sweet smelling myrrh, because never a man spake like this man. Dr. Adams closes with the story of a class of little children who gave their preacher a valentine, and he asks the church to give one to Jesus.
He is altogether lovely. Before you send a card to anyone else this year, tell Jesus how much you love Him.
